What Constitutes an Urgent Eye Care?

  • Sudden loss of vision
  • Eye infection
  • Eye injuries such as burns, foreign bodies in the eye, chemical splashes into the eyes, or red oozing eyes.

There are many types of trauma, as there are circumstances of eye injuries. Eye injuries are painful and require you to call one of our doctors immediately. Some situations considered emergencies are when you come into contact with pink eye, which is highly contagious and uncomfortable.

A condition such as an eye infection can be viral or bacterial and needs immediate attention. Those who wear contact lenses or do not practice excellent contact lens hygiene risk an eye infection, especially if they wear them longer than recommended.

What Are The Signs and Symptoms of an Eye Emergency?

If an eye emergency should arise, there are multiple reasons to call our doctors for an emergency eye exam. The signs and symptoms of a problem with your eyes could be one thing or various symptoms such as eye irritation, itchy eyes, pink or red color to sclera, stinging, burning, pain, double vision, loss of vision, flashes of light, new light sensitivity, change in pupil size, presence of floaters, or dark shadows in your visual field.

What Would Our Optometrist Exam in Routine Eye Exams?

A comprehensive eight-point eye exam includes the following possible eye exams.

  • Your pupil's visual acuity
  • Shape, size, reaction to pupils
  • Intraocular eye pressure
  • An external exam
  • Extraocular muscle exam
  • A visual exam
  • A slit-lamp exam
  • A posterior exam

Each exam has different components. Together, these exams equal a comprehensive yearly eye exam. It is vital to schedule an appointment for a baseline ophthalmic exam so that when you check your eyes next year or if an eye problem arises, we have baseline measurements we can refer to.
